Creating Your First Post
A post is a short listing of content on your website, such as a news item or a blog article. Each post has a title, an image and a teaser, and usually links through to a page holding the full article.
This guide covers creating a post, filing it under categories, choosing what happens when a visitor clicks it, and hiding it until you are ready to publish.
Before You Begin
- If you have not worked with posts before, read Understanding Posts first.
- You need at least one post category. If none exist, the post editor prompts you to create your first category. See Creating Post Categories.
Creating a Post
- Go to Dashboard > Website > Posts.
- Click New Post.
- Enter the Post Title.
- Choose one Primary Category from the dropdown. See Choosing Categories below to assign additional categories.
- Upload an Image.
- Write a Teaser / Short Description to give visitors a reason to click through.
Choosing Categories
Every post requires one primary category. You can also assign additional categories to show the post in other category listings.
- On the Post Editor tab, choose the post’s main category from the Primary Category dropdown.
- Open the Additional Attributes tab.
- Under Additional Categories, tick each extra category you want the post to appear in.
To change the primary category, choose another entry in the Primary Category dropdown. When you create a new full-version page, Oncord suggests a location under that category’s page, or the nearest parent category with a page. Review the Page Location before saving; use Override if you need to enter a different location.
Adding a Missing Category
Create missing categories under Dashboard > Website > Posts > Categories > New Category. Save any post changes before leaving the editor, create and save the category, then reopen the post to select it. See Creating Post Categories for category types and page options.
Linking the Post (Full Version / Link To)
The Full Version / Link To option allows you to specify what happens when a user clicks the Post on your website. In most cases, this will be set to "Create a new page", which creates a new page for the content of your article.
The following options are available for linking the post:
To Hide the Post (Offline)
If you would like to hide the Post while you're working on it, open up the additional attributes tab and tick the "Offline" option. Note that when your post is offline it will be hidden from standard website users, however administrators will still be able to see it.
Don't forget: You'll need to make the post visible again when you're finished, otherwise website visitors won't be able to view it.
Saving the Post
The available save buttons depend on Full Version / Link To:
- Create a New Page: Click Save & Create Linked Page to save the post and open the new page in the page editor.
- Link to Existing Page: Click Save & Close to return to Posts, or Save & Edit Linked Page to open the linked page in the editor.
- Other link options, including No Link: Click Save Post.
